Inspired by the true story of a 19th century female lighthouse keeper named Ida Lewis who Single-handedly and heroically rescued many people in a little rowboat on the turbulent sea.
Esperanza is an expansive, heroic pop/rock musical with rhythmic Spanish underpinnings, set on a remote 19th century island off the coast of Spain.
Inspired by Ida Lewis, a celebrated 19th-century lighthouse keeper in Rhode Island renowned for saving dozens of lives single-handedly, Esperanza explores the paradox of the lighthouse: a beacon of hope that saves countless lives while slowly consuming the women who tend it.
Spanning three decades, it follows generations of female lighthouse keepers, alongside a pioneering mayor, as they fight to keep their community alive while their personal love stories unravel.
Standing in defiance of storm, of isolation, and of a culture that insists the sea belongs to men, they transform survival into rebellion.
Guided by a narrator who moves us back and forward in time, the musical traces the legacy of women who inherit not only the light, but the cost of keeping it lit.
